Diptych, by artists’ studio Assemblage, opened last week. The group show took place in a semi-construction site at the top of The Liberty Building in Braamfontein. The works were dotted in and around the space. Some artists had (either by intent or lucky chance) incorporating the construction elements into the thinking of their work, whilst others fought against it. The space, part open to the elements and offering panoramas over the city, seemed to compete with the artwork at times. Coupled with this, over 40 artworks were crammed into the space, also each vying for attention.
The opening night drew a full crowed. You had to queue to see each work. This hustle-and-bustle compounded the seeming ‘business’ of the show. This turnout however, is a fantastic reflection of the exceptional marketing and promotion that went into the event.
The works on the show ranged vastly across media, subject and level of expertise. Here are some images of some of the works.
